Office of the Public Guardian Refund Scheme
If you registered an Enduring Power of Attorney or Lasting Power of Attorney from 1 April 2013 to 31 March 2017 you may be eligible to claim part of your application fee back from the Office of the Public Guardian.
The amount of your refund depends on when you paid the application fee fees. In addition to this, you will also be entitled to 0.5% interest.
It takes about 10 minutes to claim online and you will need the Donor’s UK bank account number and sort code.
If the Donor doesn’t have a UK bank account, has died or you are a Court of Protection appointed Deputy or you don’t have the use of a computer then you can claim telephonically by contacting the Refunds Helpline on 0300 456 0300 (choose option 6) or Textphone: 0115 934 2778 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday between 9am to 5pm or Wednesday 10am to 5pm.
Once you have submitted your claim it can take up to 12 weeks for your claim to be processed.
If your claim is approved, the refund will be paid to the donor’s bank account.
If your claim is not approved then you can appeal the decision by contacting the Refunds Helpline.
